Foreword
(Heb 5:13 NRSV) for everyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is unskilled in the word of righteousness.
(Heb 6:1-3 NRSV) Therefore let us go on toward perfection, leaving behind the basic teaching about Christ, and not laying again the foundation: repentance from dead works and faith toward God, instruction about baptisms, laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And we will do this, if God permits.
These texts are from the Letter to the Hebrews, a scholarly treatise by a Christian believer. In the letter the Hebrews are shown a better access to God than the old sacrificial system. Written about the year AD 65 in what has been described as extremely polished Greek; the greatness of Jesus as High Priest after the order of Melchizedek is revealed.
These teachings discuss some of the deep mysteries of God. The writer is careful to show that unless the believer knows the foundation teachings, the going on to learn of the way to perfection will be difficult. The unlearned are still infants who lack the necessary skill.
These studies seek to teach you these foundation truths about Jesus Christ.
(Luke 6:47-48 NIV) I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. 48 He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built.
